Online | Wednesdays | April 22 – June 24 | 4:30-5:30
This spring delve into Small Teaching Online by Flower Darby and James Lang, in a book club jointly hosted by EdTech and TCDC.
The entire Langara community has found itself plunged into teaching online. While many instructors have ample experience in the virtual classroom environment, others are navigating the waters for the first time. Our spring book selection is perfect for all instructors wanting ideas to give their students the best learning opportunities possible.
“The small teaching approach seeks to effect change by giving faculty small, actionable, modifications that they can make without having to overhaul their teaching from the ground up” (Darby & Lang, xxii). The authors present easy-to-use, concrete learning strategies that require very little or no preparation. Their suggestions are based on sound research and the latest findings from learning scientists.
Experienced techies and newbies alike are welcome to join in our discussions. The book club provides a supportive space to reflect on learning activities, test new online tools, and share your challenges and successes. We will meet online weekly, giving us many opportunities to interact in an online setting.  We will meet synchronously online using Zoom. You will need a computer or tablet/phone, headset or earbuds with a good mic, and preferably a webcam.
